it’s better than some small aircraft though, which just have an emergency toilet hidden beneath a regular seat, no privacy at all.

This actually makes a ton of sense for high-performance single engine planes like the Socata TBM. With aircraft like that, you get a ton of cruising range (up to 1700 Nautical Miles), but there aren’t alot of people that can last 5-6 hours without needing a bathroom. This makes those aircraft much more useful, and is also far more civilized than the standard belted potty.
